11/22: Classic Cornhole
Competition. What is Cornhole? It has been called
many things, Corn Toss, Bean Bag, Bean Toss, Soft Horseshoes,
Indiana Horseshoes, but to many born and raised in Kentucky
and the southern part of Ohio, the game is passionately
referred to as Cornhole. It has been said that the game
originated in Germany in the 14th century, and then was
rediscovered in the hills of Kentucky over 100 years ago.
The truth is, who really knows, but the game is great fun
for all ages and can be played anywhere! Cornhole or Corn
Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes
called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes
and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their
corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches
the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3
points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Scoring
can be swift and the lead may change hands several times
in a match before the winner is decided. Come on out and
experience Cornhole for yourself. The Check-in opens at
11:00 am and the first bag flies at 12:00 pm. Sponsored
by Budweiser and The Old Town General Store. For registration
information and tournament rules, please visit www.classiccornholefl.com.

January 2010

01/02: The Flywheeler
Park Flivvers will bring out their classic Ford
Model T cars (1908-1927) and Model A cars (1927-1931) at
2:30 pm. The Ford Model T, also known as Tin Lizzie or Flivver
is an automobile that was produced by Henry Ford's Ford
Motor Company. The first production Model T was built on
September 27, 1908, at the Piquette Plant in Detroit, Michigan.
The Model T is generally regarded as the first affordable
automobile. Some of the reasons it was affordable was because
of Ford's innovations of the assembly line production, as
well as the concept of paying the workers a wage proportionate
to the cost of the car, so that they would provide a ready
made market. The Ford Model T was named the world's most
influential car of the twentieth century in an international
poll.

There were several cars produced or prototyped by Henry
Ford from the founding of the company in 1903 until the
Model T came along. Although he started with the Model A,
there were not 19 production models (A through T); some
were only prototypes. The production model immediately before
the Model T was the Ford Model S, an upgraded version of
the company's largest success to that point, the Model N.
The follow-up to the Model T was the Ford Model A and not
the Model U. Company publicity said this was because the
new car was such a departure from the old that Henry wanted
to start all over again with the letter A. As it happens,
the first Plymouth car (1928), built by competitor Chrysler
Corporation, was named the Model U. The Ford Model A was
the second huge success for the Ford Motor Company. When
production ended in March, 1932, there were 4,849,340 Model
A's made in all styles. Its successor was the Model B, which
featured an updated 4-cylinder engine, followed by the Model
18 - which introduced Ford's new V8 engine.

01/16: The Hudson Essex
Terraplanes (HET) at 2:00pm. The HET is an organization
dedicated to preserving the products of the Hudson Motor
Car Company of Detroit, Michigan. Hudson produced vehicles
for 45 years from 1909-1954 and merged with Nash-Kelvinator
on May 1, 1954 to form American Motors Corporation who produced
a Nash-Hudson from 1955 until 1957. The HET Club was founded
in 1959 by Meritt Marks (1919-2003), and is a world-wide
service organization. For more information, please visit

01/24: This is the BIG one, The National Corvette
Restores Society (NCRS). Considered by some
to be the best display of Corvettes, the Winter Nationals

the streets of Old Town. Formed in 1974, the National Corvette
Restorers Society is a non-profit hobby group of 14,000
dedicated to the restoration, preservation, history and
enjoyment of Corvettes made from the model years 1953 through
1982. The NCRS has compiled and is constantly updating highly
detailed judging standards and rules for each basic model
division from 1953 through 1982. The guidelines in these
NCRS Judging Manuals are recognized throughout the hobby
as THE STANDARD in determining originality. The judging
system is designed to educate each owner about their car
as well as providing recognition for excellence in the areas
of restoration, performance, or preservation. Come out and

01/30: Featuring Ford
Lightning Trucks from 9:00am 3:00pm.
The Ford SVT Lightning is a sports/performance version of
the F-150 Pickup truck designed by Ford's SVT (Special Vehicle
Team) division. The first generation of the Lightning Truck
was produced from 1993-1995. The 1993 Lightning had an incredible
23 product "firsts" or pilot applications, including
the first true dual exhaust on an F-Series, the first bucket
seats in an F-Series, the first 17" wheels and tires,
and the first use of synthetic lubricant in Ford truck rear
axles. These trucks were manufactured at Ford's Michigan
Truck Facility in Wayne, Michigan. In 1999, after a five-year
hiatus, Ford SVT unveiled the Second Generation Ford Lightning
Truck. Powered by a modular SOHC 24-valve 5.4 L Triton,
the new engine was capable of producing 360 horsepower (270
kW) and 440 ft·lbf (600 N·m) of torque. In
the 2001 Model Year, the engine design was slightly altered
to produce 380 horsepower (280 kW) @ 4,750 rpm and 450 ft·lbf
(610 N·m) of torque @ 3,250 rpm. With these modifications
to the engine and additional drive rain revisions, Car and
Driver magazine drove a Lightning from zero to 60 mph (97
km/h) in 5.2 seconds making these trucks very popular to
the sport enthusiast. The second generation Lightning Trucks
were manufactured at Ford's Ontario Truck Facility in Oakville,
Ontario until its closure. For more information, please

March 2010

03/06: The Florida Edsel
Club will lead the cruise! There is judging
and awards with this show. This club has been participating
in the Saturday Nite Cruise for twenty years. Happy Anniversary!
The Edsel was a marquee of the Ford Motor Company during
the 1958, 1959, and 1960 model years. The brand is known
best as one of the biggest commercial failures in the history
of American business.[ "E Day" was September 4,
1957. Ford announced the end of the Edsel program on Thursday,
November 19, 1959. However, cars continued being produced
until late in November, with the final tally at 2,846 1960
models. Total sales were approximately 84,000, less than
half the company's projected break-even point. The company
lost $350 million ($1.55 billion in 2009 values) on the
venture. All totaled, 118,287 Edsels were built (including
7,440 produced in Ontario, Canada.) This figure may seem
large, but by automotive standards, it was dismal, especially
when spread across three model-years. Fifty years after
its spectacular failure, Edsel has become a highly collectible
item amongst vintage car hobbyists. Fewer than 6,000 Edsels
survive and are considered collectors items. A mint
1958 Citation convertible sometimes sells for over $100,000,
while rare models, like the 1960 convertible, may bring
up to $200,000.

03/13: The Studebakers
are back and will lead out the cruise. Come
on out and see beautiful examples of this classic automobile
starting at 12:00 pm. The first gasoline cars to be fully
manufactured by Studebaker were marketed in August 1912
and over the next 50 years, the company established an enviable
reputation for quality and reliability. The South Bend plant
ceased production on December 20, 1963, and the last Studebaker
car rolled off the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, plant on March
16, 1966.
